The Little Brooklyn Bakery (Romantic Escapes #2)

This is my second reading of Romantic Escapes series by Julie Chaplin. This book tells the story of Kate's friend, Sophie. I bought the ebook from Google Play Books. I enjoyed reading ebooks in my phone during my trip to and from office. It's practical, light and handy, easier to access anywhere and anytime.

Take a trip to New York and the best little bakery in Brooklyn for bagels, bakes, and more than a sprinkle of romance!

When Sophie Bennings arrives in New York, love is the last thing on her mind. Still reeling from a painful break up, she throws herself into her work as a food editor on a top-notch magazine.

Columnist Todd McLennan is everything that Sophie wishes she didn’t want. Like the gorgeous bakery below her Brooklyn apartment, he’s as tempting as the sugary cupcakes on daily display. Surely a little of something you fancy can do you good?

As Sophie and Todd get to know one another, a love of food isn’t the only passion they share. In the city that never sleeps, has Sophie finally met the man of her dreams…?

๐Ÿ’–My Favorite Character๐Ÿ’–
I enjoyed this more than Romantic Escapes #1 book. I've got some favorite characters here. I even want to meet them in real life, they're gonna be very nice and fun friends to get along.

Sophie
I love Sophie's character, she is kind hearted and have down-to-earth nature, light and funny (unlike Kate from the first book who's more ambitious). She loves baking, a food writer in an international reputable food magazine, she is the person with the job I wanna have ๐Ÿ˜.

Todd
Good looking (eventually drop dead gorgeous), easy going, light-hearted fun, and has a whole harem on speed dial ๐Ÿ˜„. Really an opposite of all-or-nothing kind of girl like Sophie. Despite of what it seems to be, that Todd might be all about having fun, living for the moment and enjoying everything that life threw at him without involving himself in any commitment, he do cared about her.

Bella
Todd's cousin, Bella is also my favorite. She is Sophie's landlady and also her best friend. She is great in baking and decorating cakes (cakes she makes - with huge help from Sophie - is stunning!). Bella is also the owner of a little nice bakery, my most favorite place in this book. I dream to sit in one of Bella's customer chair - where all those delicious smells of the freshly baked breads come from, to have my coffee and cake in one blissful Sunday morning.

Sophie meets Todd, and suddenly her world that's been shattered into pieces by the man she loved before, turns totally into Todd McLennan, a man that do no commitment. Will she risk her heart again by loving someone who has no place for serious relationship? Warm and delicious read full of cakes ๐Ÿ’–

Little Cafe in Copenhagen

I didn't read fiction in ages. I've been snuggled with non fiction and self help books lately, until this book jumped over me on an unbearable crowded train in my daily commuting life to the office. It just showed up on my recommended books list. I read its short description, there was "hygge" word, and the next thing I knew I gave away some of my account balance to purchase this ebook.

Welcome to the little cafe in Copenhagen where the smell of cinnamon fills the air and the hot chocolate is as smooth as silk.

Publicist Kate Sinclair’s life in London is everything she thought she wanted: success, glamour and a charming boyfriend. Until that boyfriend goes behind her back and snatches a much sought-after promotion from her. Heartbroken and questioning everything, Kate needs to escape.

Leaving behind rush hour and late nights in the office for a city break in beautiful Copenhagen, Kate discovers how to live life ‘the Danish way’. From candles and cosy nights in to the easy smiles of tall, gorgeous Vikings and eating your body weight in pastries (ok, that’s just her), the city offers her a new perspective.

Can the secrets of hygge and happiness lead her to her own happily-ever-after?

This was a warm read. I enjoyed reading it. It was a book that loaded with lots foodie hygge things (of course, that's why they name it City Bakes), especially Wienerbrรธds (Danish pastry). Reading it made me suddenly drooling. Like kanelsnegle. Who can resist from that awesome rolls? After finishing the book, I rushed to coffeeshop near my home just to grab a cinnamon bun.

In desperate for being betrayed by her ex in job promotion, Kate went to Copenhagen for business trip and took six journalists with her to discover the Danish culture: hygge. Among the journalists, there was Ben who started his first meeting with Kate in a harsh way, but in another occassion the two had the magical chemistry each other. Each of the journalists just as Kate, has their own problems, hiding inside their "look well" appearance.

In Copenhagen, Kate befriended Eva, owner of "Varme" (in English means "warm"), a cozy little Danish cafe. Eva played important role in helping them knowing what to do to fix their life, she had that "white witch thing", kind of people who love to take care of others. Even when things got messy, everytime Kate stepped into Varme, I had this peaceful feeling that things are gonna be okay. As they went through the trip, they learned that hygge is not only about expensive lamp, candles, high end furniture, or even a cashmere socks. It is more about family, where making a celebration of the rainy day, prioritising to be with your special people,  emphasising togetherness, all add up to a happier way of life.

If you’re looking for a warm read to snuggle down in sofa at weekend, this book might be for you. 4 stars for it. Now lets get a cup of coffee and kanelsnegle.
